Toernooibase Lidraughts Summer Cup 2020

Well last game is played. Rik Smit won with a spectacular combination against Sytze Spijker in a complicated endgame where both players had a king.
Also two decisions by referee. Danila Lapchuk get a reglementary victory against Jan van de Veen, because appointment for playing did not succeed. And there was one removal from the rankings, so that changed a bit. Piotr Paluch for example now passes Marcin Chesiak as best Polish player.

Heorhi Vydzerka winner of the Summer Cup

Belarussian youth player Heorhi Vydzerka has won the Summer Cup. Wednesday he played against Polish player Marcian Chesiak. And Chesiak looked not really inspired. He played fast and in the midgame he got significant disadvantage. Vydzerka did not make any mistake and won and so he is unreachable for his pursuers.
About the next places there is still some doubt. 
Two players play in Golden Prague and there is agreed that they play tomorrow. I am not so happy at that, but if also opponents want to play, who am I to forbid that. So tomorrow the second Belarussian youth player Danila Lapchuk plays against Jan van de Veen. One of them can reach 14 points when there is a decision. 
Meanwhile Yaïr Eysbroek won today remarkable from Theo van den Hoek and he has also reached a toppositon. And that is all I want to say about this at this moment.
Michel Stempher, he defeated Gerrit Draaisma also got 14 out of 9.
Interesting is the position of foreign players. Best Polish player in the rankings is Marcin Chesiak. Today Piotr Paluch had chances against Hans van Hal, but he had to rest in a draw.
Best player of France in the competition became Jean-Paul Plantin who passed Mickaël Carton today. Mickaël won impressively from me yesterday. Giovanni Fava is the best Italian player while Melvin Dahl was - very close - the best player of the trio from French Guyana.
 

Well we started this on-line competition with 67 players, which was at the end at this moment 58 players. I hope that a lot of players enjoyed to participate in playing their favourite game on-line.
I want to thank them all. During the competition people made mistakes and there did things go wrong. Also I made mistakes, a lot on the draughtsboard but also beside the board. But we are all humans. 
Special thanks to Martijn van Gortel for his contribution with his Youtube stream, thanks to Hendrik Veenstra and developers of lidraughts for implementing automatic semi-live display of games and results in Toernooibase. And thanks to an international referee who checked the pairings and also gave advise in decisions I made.
Congratulations to winner Heorhi Vydzerka, from which I received yesterday an email where he thanks for the friendly atmosphere. And for training with classical tempo in this tournament for the Belarussian Championship which starts tomorrow. We wish him success!

Okay pairings ninth and last round. Things have changed since yesterday.
Danila Lapchuk and Mercin Chesiak played their game this morning. A sporty gesture from Danila. The result was a draw.
Rankings are furthermore changed because some players are excluded from the tournament. 
Two players, Katrinus Posthumus and Roy Verveer cannot play the last round. They get a draw against Dummy.

I have decided not to do a livestream on webcams of the five topgames on Saturday. The effort is too great in relation to the result. So also this five topgames of the last round must be played on 28 August or earlier. Maybe Martijn van Gortel will do a Youtube stream with summary of last round on 29 August.

The absolute topgame Heorhi Vydzerka – Marcin Chesiak cannot be played on Friday because Heorhi has to play in Belarussian Championship and leaves to Minsk on Friday. Hopefully they can play on Wednesday or Thursday.

A remarkable second part of round eight. First of all Marcin Chesiak did not appear at lidraughts on 19.00 hrs. His opponent Danila Lapchuk waited 30 minutes. After  contact with me I have decided that he did not had to wait any longer and he gets two points. Afterwards (after 41 minutes) Chesiak was on-line. With excuses because of storm and rain and offline. Well the decision stands at the moment but I have mailed both persons if they can and want to play tomorrow then that result will stand. Pairings of last round will then be later.
In the afternoon already the game Albert Hendrik Snijder – Jean Louis Farcy was played. Farcy did win in a very long endgame.
The two topgames of this evening had startling results. Jan Snijder won against Katrinus Posthumus in the late mid game, while they were first playing very fast. And Jorn Kruit took care for another surprise by beating Piotr Paluch. With a nice combination and a very secure endgame. 
So pairings will be late tomorrow or even on Monday depending on answers from Lapchuk and Chesiak and maybe “replay” of their game.

Well the first part of the eight round was in some games very spectacular with drama. 
So was Sytze Spijker on a surprising way to win against Jean-Paul Plantin, but in the end he failed dramatically. I had on Wednesday a nice forcing(?) against Stéphane Bochaton. The shot to king looked winning, but in the endgame I gave Stéphane chances to make a draw. Finally he made another mistake and game over. Gerrit Draaisma took today an attack against Erik van de Weerdhof which resulted in a convincing victory. That means a free fall in the rankings for Erik. Rik Smit refused to take a king with possible draw and then Zamble Bi Zamble took the lead in the game. Smit could not recover anymore, and the Ivorian player makes a surprising jump to the virtual third place at this moment. 
Two players from North Brabant reached a draw against players with much stronger KNDB-ratings. So the supporters of Arno Bloks and Henk van der Heijden on Facebook will be enthusiastic on their results.
Also two really topgames were already played. Fellow club mates Michel Stempher and Yaïr Eysbroek played on Monday a draw, and the same happened today in the game between Martijn van Gortel en Heorhi Vydzerka. So a little status quo at the top.
The game between Pim Broeren en Adrie Koedoot was not played. They were both on-line but did not succeed to make a good contact to each other. Yeah, there are manuals, but digital playing is still difficult. The referee (that’s me) has decided in a draw, because Adrie cannot play tomorrow.
Tomorrow there are still four games left. Three topgames we will try to display also with webcams in a livestream. And of course Martijn van Gortel will on Youtube comment the games and will also take a flashback on the games already played. So join the livestreams tomorrow on 19.00/20.00 hrs!
Special attention to the game tomorrow between Danila Lapchuk and Marcin Chesiak. With a win, one of them goes to twelve points and has still sight on a virtual medal.

Furthermore. At the EDC online youthtournaments there are suspicions of use of computerprogramms. An expert team is investigating all the games. When youthplayers are disqualified in EDC tournament, and same youthplayers have played in Toernooibase Lidraughts Summer Cup also questionable matches, they will be removed from the rankings.

Well some remarkable results in the second part of the seventh round. The Ivorian player Zambli Bi Zamble surprised Erik van de Weerdhof with a combination to king. And although it looked like the king would be catched again, after a sacrifice the masterpiece was free and made a devastating threat.
Rik Smit had a narrow escape against Marcin Chesiak from Poland who was one piece ahead. Something did go wrong and then the draw was onavoidable.
In the game between Belarusian youngster Danila Lapchuk and Jorn Kruit the balance was not broken, so also a draw.
The second surprise was the win of Jan Snijder against Fred Elgersma. Elgersma had an attack but a lot of pieces on his right wing. The surrounding of Snijder was very effective, and in an eight to eight black got completely stuck.
Heorhi Vydzerka from Belarus is now comfortable on the lead with 13 out of 7, Yaïr Eysbroek, Michel Stempher and Martijn van Gortel follow at two points. A quartet of players has still sight on a medal place with three points behind.

The first part of the seventh round is played. Five games were reglementary draws because players participate in Hoogeveen Open. One game has decided in a loss for Ludovic Kandem by the referee, because he could not make it this Friday. At another game it is still unknown what really happened. Four games are postponed to tomorrow, which is not the meaning of the “free” Saturday. When players cannot play on Friday they have to make an appointment to play in advance, not afterwards. 
In principle, Saturday is reserved for the top five matches.
Well, the topgame between Vydzerka and Eysbroek could not be played on Saturday, and was already played on Thursday. It ended in a draw. Today Martijn van Gortel made a nice move in the rankings by defeating  Jean-Paul Plantin in a fast game. Also Piotr Paluch jumps to above with a beautiful combination against Lisa Scholtens. 
Gerrit Terpstra and Theo van den Hoek played also in advance and complete also the players with 9 out of 7 by winning against Henk van der Heijden and Stef Migchelbrink.
Tomorrow Danila Lapchuk, Rik Smit and Marcin Chesiak can try to go for the virtual medalplaces in the rankings, during (now) the top four games.
And Jorn Kruit, Erik van de Weerdhof and Zamble Bi Zamble Fulbert can climb before the players with nine points when they win. 
Martijn van Gortel will comment the games on his livestream on Youtube, while we also will try to get some players with Skype in a livestream of Toernooibase on Youtube.

Four decisions in the topgames at the second part of the sixth round. Fred Elgersma was frivolous with taking a partie-Bonnard. Marcin Chesiak did not pale and was able to accurately refute the wrong strategy. 
And the youngsters did win also. Yaïr Eysbroek again played a virtually clear game and when Krijn Toet made a miss, he was there to take the two points. It is amazing and it seems almost impossible how the unknown dammeruitkampen strings the points together against strong players. Danila Lapchuk played a strategical strong game, which he finished with a lot of power against Gerrit Terpstra. And the leader Heorhi Vydzerka, also from Belarus, played a fine encirclement, against which his opponent Jean Paul Plantin ultimately did not find the right plan. 
So Vydzerka still on the lead with 12 out of 6, followed by two players from Kampen, Eysbroek and Stempher with two points behind.

Well some surprising results in the first part of the sixth round. In the top of the ranking Michel Stempher beat convincingly Katrinus Posthumus (yesterday) while Martijn van Gortel this evening played a fast draw against Rik Smit. 
Jorn Kruit and Sytze Spijker are new runners up, now at this moment on the seventh and eighth place. 
There were a lot of small combinations in the mostly fast games of today. The warm weather in the Netherlands is probably the cause. 
Also two defeats by decision referee. Now we are over the half of the tournament it must be for the competitors clear that 
a) the whiteplayer, when both players are online has to challenge the blackplayer and when blackplayer challenges the whiteplayer also has to accept the challenge
b) when you cannot make it on Friday 19.00 hrs., you have to make initiative to try to make a new appointment
And the manuals are for everybody visible in the tournamentroom of Toernooibase. So as referee I am now a little bit strict in this rules, because this happens too much with the same players.
Tomorrow (Saturday) still eight players from the top will play on 19.00 hrs. So the ranking will be shuffled again.
Because of the warm weather both Martijn van Gortel and myself have decided not to make livestreams of this top games tomorrow. It is too hot to do a lot of things at the computer.
But of course you can follow the top games on screen (perhaps relaxing in the garden with mobile or tablet)  with the semi-live option in Toernooibase. Next week where the temperature is predicted to drop, we will continue the livestreams.

Well a very exciting second part of the fifth round.
But first this afternoon the game between Giuanluca Spessato and Ruben Kant was played. The Italian player did win after Kant had earlier the best chances.
Four players from the three topgames were this evening with webcams visible at the livestream on Youtube from Toernooibase. Also Piotr Paluch was on Skype but unfortunately he used the wrong Skype-link.
The game between Katrinus Posthumus and Yaïr Eysbroek ended in a draw. In a complicated position Eysbroek made a combination for two pieces to king. However there was compensation in the position, so Posthumus escaped.
Rik Smit did make a nice forcing against Piotr Paluch. He won a piece, while both players did get a king. A second piece for Smit could also go to the kingsline. This was too much for Paluch and he ended the game by losing on time.
The duel between the two leaders Heorhi Vydzerka and Michel Stempher was really top. Heorhi had even two webcams in his stream, so on the background we could also take a look at his monitor. In the beginning it seemed that Stempher had the initiative, but this was taken over by the Belarusian youthplayer. A surrounding plus a left wing lock was threatening. Stempher did see no solution at the end. By giving six pieces at his last move, the game ended spectacular.
Vydzerka is now sole on the lead with 10 out of 5, followed by the Frenchmen Jean-Paul Plantin with 9 out of 5. A quintet Dutch  players is on third place with 8 out of 5.

Quite a remarkable first part of the fifth round this evening. Two games in the top of the ranking did finish very fast. Gert Bosker did play a draw against Belarusian youngster Danila Lapchuk while Martijn van Gortel beat Jan van de Veen with a nice catch of the white king in the endgame. Before that the first result was the win of Ron de Vaal against Stefan Tigelaar, who did play on a wrong timecontrol with eight minutes each.
Between the games also an instructive (edit:but it seems a draw!) win in a classical position from Krijn Toet against Piet Bakelaar. Most surprising was the loss of Erik van de Weerdhof in a spectacular game against the Frenchmen Jean-Paul Plantin, who now goes to the top of the ranking.
The game of Albert Hendrik Snijder against Giovanni Fava is postponed to next Monday, because it was not possible to make an appointment this week. Today the game between Ludovic Kandem and Dieter van Gortel was also not played. It looks that this game will also be played on Monday. Both games will be then for the pairings a draw while later the final result will be included in the standings.

Okay. Pairings round 5. There was no contact with Makendy Saint Juste, so he is after two defeats by decision referee out of competition.

The second part of the fourth round had two spectacular topgames. 
But first very happy that the game Raymond Vandecaetsbeek –  Stefan Tigelaar (with a win for the Belgium player) was played this afternoon. Unfortunately that did not apply to the game Yaïr Eysbroek – Makendy Saint Juste, where the American player did not appear at lidraughts. So the victory goes by decision referee to Eysbroek. The delayed game between Ludovic Kandem and Piet Rozenboom was played in the wrong timecontrol 60 min. + 60 sec., however the game was finished quite soon. Rozenboom won by a finesse in the endgame. The Cameroon player voluntary appeared in a Skype meeting at the Youtube channel of Toernooibase, where in total four players were visible in their thinking work.
Gerrit Draaisma got a half fence in his game against Jorn Kruit. It seemed quite dangerous for Kruit, but in the end everything was equal. A draw.
The two topgames were attractive. Piotr Paluch surprised Erik van de Weerdhof with a special move (15.32-27!?)  in the Roozenburg-system. Van de Weerdhof managed to get a winning position, but did not find the winning move 34…17-21! Paluch could escape and after that the game was equal. Favorite Michel Stempher had a very tough game against Jan van de Veen. The surrounding of Van de Veen resulted in an inevitable breakthrough for a peace. The draw was almost coming, but Van de Veen made the wrong choice of shot, after which Stempher brought a winning endgame to the board. Stempher is now on the lead with better opponents rating then Heorhi Vydzerka.
Tomorrow – a little bit later than usual – the pairings of the fifth round.

Well, the first part of the fourth round is played. The topgame between Heorhi Vydzerka and Rik Smit ended in a win for the Belarusian youthplayer, who has now (for the time being?) the lead.
Also countryman Danila Lapchuk did well with a blue draw against Martijn van Gortel. On Wednesday leaders Katrinus Posthumus and Jean-Paul Plantin also played a draw. A jump in the ranking made the Ivorian Coast player Zambli Bi Zamble Fulbert who won today against Stef Migchelbrink in an attractive game.
The game between Raymond Vandecaetsbeek and Stefan Tichelaar was not played although both were on-line. Maybe tomorrow, when also the game Ludovic Kandiem – Piet Roozenboom is played between the following topgames to start on 19.00 hrs:

Okay. The second part of the third round.
The referee made some decisions in the games which were not played yesterday. The game between Jan Snijder and Amoni Afonsoewa is declared in a win for Snijder. Spokesman Melvin Dahl also reported that Afonsoewa is withdrawing from the tournament because he cannot play on Friday 19.00 hrs. Amsterdam time.
Marco Mies and Ron de Vaal concluded both not to play anymore and were satisfied with a paper draw. And also the game between Nariyaana Sergeeva and Luitzen van der Heide is declared in a draw because both players could not communicate properly to make an appointment to play the game, while they were yesterday both on-line on 19.00 hrs.

Today in the three remaining games Yulia Bintsarovska had a narrow escape against Tanya-Marie Cnossen. Cnossen had a piece ahead but could not find the winning plan. 
From the two topgames, the encounter between Yaïr Eysbroek and Piotr Paluch ended in a clean draw, but Fleur Kruymulder surprisingly defeated Heorhi Vydzerka in a strong endgame. So she takes the lead in the ranking after three rounds, because she has the highest opponents rating at this moment.

Well. A very hectic first part of the third round. Four games were not played. Makendy Saint Juste was far too late online and gets a defeat from the referee. From Amoni Afonsoewa there was no message so far. Without explanation he also gets a zero. Both Nariyaana Sergeeva and Luitzen van der Heide were at the start on-line. But they could not connect with each other. We wait also for an explanation from Nariyaana, because she had to invite Luitzen for the game. The same appeared between Marco Mies en Ron de Vaal. Maybe they can play the game tomorrow.
We have three players on the lead: Jan van de Veen, Michel Stempher and Katrinus Posthumus. They have the full score of six out of three. Tomorrow we have the topgames between Yaïr Eysbroek and Piotr Paluch and Heorhi Vydzerka against Fleur Kruysmulder. So two players can maybe join the top three. Blue entries were today for Danila Lapchuk (draw against Erik van de Weerdhof) and for Melvin Dahl who won against the narrator. Melvin could lose a peace in the opening (I did not see) but he threw me off the board in an accurate endgame. Eighteen games were today with a new feature semi-live displayed on Toernooibase. 
It seems that some players have problems to invite each other for a challenge on lidraughts.

Semi-live Lidraughts in Toernooibase

Some have already noticed. This week, programmer Hendrik Veenstra implemented a new feature in Toernooibase in collaboration with the designers of Lidraughts. Tournament games in Toernooibase, where the games are played on-line in Lidraughts, such as the Toernooibase Lidraughts Summer Cup, are now shown semi-live in Toernooibase with a delay of five moves. The big advantage is that the nicknames are replaced by the real player names, games can be requested per tournament and that after the game, the result (with the applet, with the clocktimes per move) is immediately included in Toernooibase. Wednesday was tested with the Online Club Championship of CEMA / De Vaste Zet. After that, some modifications were made.

So this evening with Toernooibase about twenty matches semi-live visible of the Toernooibase  Lidraughts Summer Cup!

Paring round 3. Jeroen Gijsbers has decided not to play further in tournament. And Hans de Vries takes one game time-out.
This means that there is an odd number of players. Stefan Tigelaar is paired against Dummy and gets now two points and Hans de Vries a draw against Dummy (one game time-out).

In the second part of the second round this evening the favourites Michel Stempher (with a sacrifice manoeuvre against Stef Migchelbrink) and Makendy Saint Juste (again very fast play against Mickael Carton) both got two points. Also Gerrit Draaisma beat Ludovic Kandem, who could not find the best moves in a Roozenburg-attack. The biggest surprise however was the win of youngster Fleur Kruysmulder against Rik Smit. In a complicated game with in the late middle game an outpost on field 15, Smit could not find a good defence and lost the endgame. Kruysmulder now occupies the second place in the rankings.

Well, after the first part of the second round of the Toernooibase Lidraughts Summer Cup still some youngsters on the lead, with two young topplayers from Belarus: Danila Lapchuk and Heorhi Vydzerka. Some favorites for the rankings like Erik van de Weerdhof, Katrinus Posthumus and Piotr Paluch (Poland) have also full house at this moment. One game is not played because the black player did not appear in lidraughts. Maybe tomorrow? 
Tomorrow (11-07-2020) still five games will be played, with the top players Makendy Saint Juste (USA) and Michel Stempher.
Four games will be live covered from ca. 19.30 hrs. (Amsterdam time) at a livestream with comments from Martijn van Gortel on Youtube. He will sure also take a flashback to the games which were played today. We also plan some players visible on webcams at a livestream (ca. 19.00 hrs.) from Toernooibase at Youtube.

From the second part of the 1st round (four topgames) three games were played. The game between Alexei Ovsyanko against Wouter van Beek was not played because Van Beek did not show up on 19.00 hrs. at lidraughts. Aexei waited a long time and then got the paper victory.
Much later Van Beek did appear but this was too late. Van Beek decided not to play further in the tournament.
Makendy Saint Juste beat in a very fast game Henk Kamminga, Jan Snijder lost against Michel Stempher and Dieter van Gortel played a long game against Erik van de Weerdhof, but finally had to raise the flag.

From the four games, which were not played earlier, two games have been played on Saturday. Rik Smit got two points against Pim Broeren and Piet Rozenboom did defeat Gianluca Spessato.
Christian Tiaya did not react on any e-mail and is now out of tournament by decision referee. Amoni Afonsoewa accepts the loss by decision but plays further in tournament.

Okay, the first part of the first round of the Toernooibase Lidraughts Summer Cup is played.
Some surprising results of youth players, especially the win of Danila Lapchuk against Theo van den Hoek.
Three games are for the time being a 2-0, because the black player did not appear at lidraughts. When the white player agrees, the game can be played  tomorrow.
One game is for the time being 1-1, because both players were on-line, but could not make contact. In this case is agreed that they play the game before next Friday. So the (virtual) draw will be standing for the next pairing on Sunday.

Toernooibase Lidraughts Summer Cup
 

Nu de zomertoernooien in Nederland vrijwel van de baan zijn, wil ik (in navolging van het Provinciaal Internettoernooi PFDB, dat op 1 juli stopt) een nieuw toernooi in Toernooibase organiseren met online spelen in lidraughts.org. Dit om damliefhebbers die dat willen, toch een mogelijkheid te bieden in de zomerperiode een aantal leuke partijen te spelen.

Opzet: 9 ronden Zwitsers systeem op FMJD-rating

Vier (FMJD)-ratingklassen (op basis van ratingtabel per 1-4-2020), nog nader in te delen op basis van sterkte van de deelnemers.

ronde 2: vrijdag 10 juli 19.00 uur
ronde 3: vrijdag 17 juli 19.00 uur

Because almost every Summer Tournament in the Netherlands is cancelled, I want to organize a new tournament in Toernooibase with online play at lidraughts.org (a follow up of the Provincial Internet tournament PFDB, which ends on July 1st). This to offer draughts lovers  in the summer period a tournament to play some nice games.
And just as usual at a summer tournament in the Netherlands also foreign players can subscribe. 
Only restriction is that you play at the recommended Dutch time. (Because young Dutch players can then also play in the tournament).
 

Format: 9 rounds Swiss system on FMJD rating
Four (FMJD) rating categories (based on rating table of April 2020), to be further classified according to the strength of the participants.
