Carl Smith found a very original defence after John played 36.17-22. 36-31!! looks terrible but there is an intriguing web of traps involved: 32-27 13-18 37-32 is a threat. 9-14 is no solution due to 48-42!, so 37.13-18 48-42!!! and 9-13 seems cleverly counter Smith's plan, but he brilliantly plays 33-28 19-24 42-38!! and 44-40!! Very original ! Smith was a strong and also almost undefeatable American mainly active in the sixties and seventies. |
