Graphic analysis "Horizon":

 08-06-2009 Lex Mulder:
I suspect that Georgiev is testing and teasing(!) Schwartzman to see how far he can go in producing moves of-at least-dubious value and get away with it. For example, Georgiev knows quite well that a white piece on 15, in the 2nd game, would only provide his opponent with extra tactical possibilities.Or is Schwartzman approaching this match in a too casual way, as reflected by his relaxed-not to say-arrogant body language in the opening stages of the games?
 08-06-2009 Juan:
Buenas dias
 08-06-2009  Marcel Kosters:
Yes the psychology of this match is fascinating. Looking at Schwarzman right now one would say he is determined to win this time. Georgiev seems to be willing to take substantial risks and punches in order to wear Schwarzman out. And what will be the impact of the rule of a minimum of three wins.

we can't see the live game because java applet don't appear ! can you help us S?n?gal
 08-06-2009 groeneveld:
toernooibase al geprobeerd??

 08-06-2009  Jan Pieter Drost:
@Marcel Kosters
I guess the effect of the three wins rule is that players are less afraid to take risks. In a conventional match any defeat is nearly fatal, but in this match, that is almost certainly to be determined by a tie-break, a lost game only means a backlog at the start of the rapid games.

If you have problem with applet
you need to install Java (TM) Platform Standart Edition
 08-06-2009 draughtsfan:
You can download Java at:

What about the webcam. It turns many times grey?
 08-06-2009 albino:
could someone explain me what does "system georgiev" mean? thanks
 08-06-2009  Christian van der Schaaf:
I think Schartzman is quite satisfied with his position.
 08-06-2009 Juan:
Svartsman s position looks better,+6 and there is no way to get out of classik.
 08-06-2009  Christian van der Schaaf:
"System Geeorgiev"is in my view not a system but a strategy to reach positions in which he can excel with his computational abilities, especially between the 40th-50th moves. Schwartzman relies more on his gut feeling.
 08-06-2009  Jan Pieter Drost:
23.37-31*31 seems more logical than opening this big exchange but then Truus continues with 4-10 25.47-41 19-23*23. Maybe Schwarzman didn't like that?
 08-06-2009 Lex Mulder:
Feike, could you give us a very brief outline what criteria are being used by your program in evaluating a player's game:e.g. strategic, tactical, forced moves, freedom of moves, occupation of dominating squares, tempo's, and any other considerations? And is the program biased towards any of these criteria? I am not a computer whiz kid, but can Horizon only show significant material/positional imbalances in a game, and does it miss the more subtle ones?
 08-06-2009  Christian van der Schaaf:
Lots of problems for black. Dont you agree?
 08-06-2009 Vladimir:
What problems?
 08-06-2009 groeneveld:
why??

 08-06-2009  Christian van der Schaaf:
ok, no problems
 08-06-2009  Feike Boomstra:
pagesperso-orange.fr/alemanni/page2_e.html gives a good overview how a draughts program thinks.

All aspects you mentioned are taken into account.

My evaluation values are in general a little bit less extreme compared to truus.

If there are more "good" moves, Horizon just takes one to display. It would take very long to calculated all the alternatives.
if someone think the evaluation or the best move is really wrong, please tell me, with the arguments why you think it is wrong. It could improve the program.
 08-06-2009  Christian van der Schaaf:
ok on 31. 42-37 is possible 17-21 32. 48-42 21-27 x x because 37-32 fails. 31. 31-27? x x is possible 19-23 and blak can always regroup, so waiting with 49-43 and maybe black can strengthen his attacking position?

 08-06-2009 Vladimir:
White may have had an advantage but in this position the odds seem to have changed as black altered the position into an attack and the white pawns on 25 35 and 45 don't seem to do much good either.
 08-06-2009 Dam:
31.42-37 17-21 48-42 21-27x27 and then first 25-20 and then 37-32 =
 08-06-2009  Feike Boomstra:
31. 31-26 is valued 0.04 31. 42-37/49-43/32-27 are all valued 0.02 No real difference
 08-06-2009  Christian van der Schaaf:
The idea from "Dam" is a good one. So after 17-21 a draw is most likely.
 08-06-2009 V67Y3N:
Na 31 17-21 is er een kleine combinatie mogelijk 35-50, 45-40 en 31-26
 08-06-2009 Lex Mulder:
Feike, thanks for the link re draughts programs.
 08-06-2009  Christian van der Schaaf:
@V67Y3N : The combination seems to me very expensive (31. .. 17-21 32. 35-30 etc.)

 08-06-2009 Daan van Os:
Cobination is for 2 pieces
 08-06-2009 Auke Scholma:
A possibility: 23.37-31 26x37 24.42x31 4-10 25.47-42 19-23 26.28x19 14x23 27.44-39 10-14 28.42-37 12-17(!)
( Now white cannot play 29.31-26? because of 14-20, 3-9, 17x8, 11x44 W+1. After 29.45-40 8-12! and 30.31-26? 17-22! or 30.35-30?18-22! are forbidden, while after 30.49-44 21-26 31.27-21 16x27 32.32x23 23-28 white has to surch a draw)
29.35-30 17-22 30.45-40 11-17 31.49-44 21-26
(not 8-12? or 3-9?, 31-26!)
32.39-33
(after 32.27-21 16x27 33.32x12 8x17 white cannot attack 34.39-33? (6-11, 23-29, 22-27, 17x50) )
32...17-21 33.33x24 8-12 34.38-33(!) 3-9
(34...23-28? 35.32x23 18x49 36.27x20 and the black king wil be captured; 34...3-8(?) 35.32-28! 21x41 36.28x10 26x37 37.36x47 15x4 38.25-20 and black is in danger; 34...23-29? 35.33-28! 22x33 36.43-39 advantage for white)
35.40-35 23-28 36.32x23 18x40 37.27x7 6-11 38.35x44 11x2
with interresting (draw) position.
Its understandible that Schwarzman avoided this kind of dangerous complications.
 08-06-2009  Christian van der Schaaf:
A draw. Hopefully next games are more interesting, like the first two.
 08-06-2009  John Folkers:
